Turkey kicks off “zero Waste Encyclopedia“ foundation

(MENAFN) In preparation for hosting COP31 in 2026, Türkiye’s Zero Waste Foundation has made the “Zero Waste Encyclopedia” publicly available in both Turkish and English, providing comprehensive and up-to-date information on global environmental practices.

The encyclopedia offers detailed insights into when countries initiated zero waste programs, their progress over the years, and future targets. It analyzes international implementations through a data-driven, comparative approach.

Users can access country-specific information such as recycling and recovery rates, economic gains from recycling, trees saved, reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, buildings converted to zero waste systems, as well as projected recycling rates and target years.

The Conference of the Parties (COP), as the highest decision-making body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), has convened annual meetings since 1995 to assess climate progress and negotiate mitigation measures.

Türkiye will host the 31st session, COP31, from November 9 to 20, 2026, primarily at the Turkish Riviera resort of Antalya, with the leaders’ summit held in Istanbul.

The Zero Waste Encyclopedia is intended to serve as a key reference during the COP31 process, highlighting data-driven evidence on the impact of zero waste practices in combating climate change. The resource is accessible online at "sifiratikansiklopedisi.com."

Founded in 2023 and based in Istanbul, the Zero Waste Foundation operates under the honorary presidency of First Lady Emine Erdogan. The organization supports Türkiye’s broader Zero Waste initiative, aiming to reduce carbon emissions, optimize resource use, and provide measurable environmental performance for all stakeholders.
