Don’t miss out on Wild Color Palettes from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, as viewers learn that gardening can be another form of art. Just because summer is ending doesn’t mean it’s time to put the garden shovel away quite yet. Tune in for The Fall Garden from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11. Residents will have two opportunities to tune in for Missouri Turkey Hunting and Gobble Guidance in a virtual program from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, or from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18. The interactive online session will cover scouting, strategy, safety, and more.
Learn about fishing on the fly, archery, and more
Come hungry to Pond to Plate – Bluegill on the Fly and in the Fry as participants will go on a fishing adventure 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at Chesapeake Fish Hatchery, 21186 Highway 174 in Mount Vernon. Sign up and learn how to catch, clean, and cook these hard-fighting fish. All participants 16 years and older are required to have a valid fishing license. All equipment provided. The public is invited to hone their archery skills with Crossbow/3D Archery 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at Andy Dalton Shooting Range and Education Center, 4897 North Farm Road 61 in Ash Grove. Participants will learn the nomenclature of the crossbow, hand placement, stance, and more. They will also learn about correct shot placement on 3D targets. Backpacking for Beginners will be from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at Springfield Conservation Nature Center, 4601 South Nature Center Way in Springfield. Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center will host Fall Native Plant Sale and Monarch Festival from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at 201 W. Riviera Drive in Joplin. Drop by any time during these free events to purchase native plants and enjoy a fun-filled day of monarch butterfly-themed activities. Vendors will offer hardy trees, shrubs, and flowers native to Missouri and will provide information about the benefits of planting native species. Take time to learn with the Introduction to Fishing 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Shepherd of the Hills Conservation Education Center, 483 Hatchery Road in Branson. Participants, ages 16 and up, will need a valid Missouri Fishing License. Ever wondered about fly-fishing? Don’t miss Fly-Fishing for Beginners – PART ONE & TWO with members of the Missouri Trout Fisherman’s Association from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Springfield Conservation Nature Center. Learn what fly-fishing is, what fish eat, basic fly-fishing concepts, casting basics, and a few knots to get you going. After the indoor portion, participants will drive to Living Memorial Park to practice casting.
This is a two-part series, and participants must register for both sessions. The second part of this series will be held for the same time on Saturday, Oct. 3.
