BAAPS figures show fewer breast enlargements and more implant removals. Dr Aykut Özpür discusses what changing priorities mean for individual surgical choices.

ISTANBUL, TURKEY, October 27, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Breast enlargement procedures fell 8% in the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons’ audit of 2025 activity, bringing changing patient priorities into focus. Istanbul plastic surgeon Dr Aykut Özpür is discussing how the findings relate to decisions about breast volume, shape and the choice of operation.

Published on April 15, 2026, the BAAPS release reported 4,761 breast augmentations, with breast reduction close behind at 4,673. Implant removals increased 6% to 850. The figures describe activity captured by the association’s audit and should not be read as a count of all UK patients undergoing surgery at home or abroad.

What the Figures Mean for Individual Choices

“A patient may want more fullness, a higher breast position or less volume. Those are different goals. The consultation should establish which concern matters most and which operation can reasonably address it. Choosing a procedure because it is fashionable can leave the patient’s actual concern unresolved,” says Özpür.

His published breast uplift information describes reshaping tissue and removing excess skin, with an implant considered when existing volume is insufficient. This distinction helps explain why an uplift and an enlargement may address different parts of a patient’s request.

The audit does not establish why any individual chose surgery or show that enlargement has become obsolete. Augmentation remained its most frequently recorded cosmetic procedure. A change in the balance of procedures provides a reason to examine patient goals more closely, rather than assume that one operation now suits everyone.

A Longer View of Breast Surgery

“The aim is to agree a plan that fits the patient’s body and expectations. That includes discussing scars, recovery and possible future changes. If implant removal is being considered, we also need to explain how the remaining tissue may look and whether an uplift or another approach should be discussed,” Özpür adds.

NHS guidance notes that breast implants are not lifetime devices and may require replacement. It encourages patients to discuss implant type, positioning and follow-up with the surgeon. Those considerations are relevant whether someone is considering a first augmentation or reviewing an earlier operation.

For UK patients considering breast surgery in Turkey, the decision also involves arrangements after returning home. NHS advice on treatment abroad highlights the importance of clarifying where follow-up will take place and what happens if complications or further surgery arise.

A consultation can bring the discussion back to concrete questions: whether the main goal is volume or position, what each proposed procedure would change and what ongoing care would involve. The BAAPS figures provide context for that conversation; the patient’s assessment determines the treatment options.
